Everybody’s got problems

Monday, February 27th, 2017

Yesterday when I was bringing my husband home from the store, I saw a big billboard saying 1 in 5 children have learning issues and attention issues. I told my husband that was a lot of kids so no wonder people with learning disabilities are considered normal. It’s so common.

I also remember seeing an article online about how up to 50% of Americans will have a mental illness so I thought “wow it’s becoming so common it will be normal.” Society has changed so what was considered normal then is now a disorder and behaviors are being pathologized. But that could have just been that person’s opinion. Here is the article here.

So my parents had been right about me being “normal,” they were just ahead of their times.

Now the question is just when does someone stop being normal despite having problems and a disability?
